Welcome to our brand new website for Eastern Shore Talk. The website is designed to be yet another point of contact for our group, along with our Facebook group, and YouTube channel. In the short time that the group has been active, we have maintained daily content on Facebook, and regular in person/Zoom sessions. We have had the honor of having best selling author, and mental health/wellness advocate Matt Runnalls guest speak for our group. We will be having other amazing guest speakers in the future, such as Alisha Saulsbury, mental health professional specializing in trauma, who will be our next guest speaker on January 9th, 2024 to speak about trauma. We also have a future commitment from a nutrition expert who will be speaking on how food effects the brain, and gut. As the group grows and evolves, we will be adding other speakers, and activities to help our community learn, grow, connect, inspire, and support through all things self care. Our group led sessions are nothing short of amazing. We offer a safe space where our members can find comfort in knowing they are not alone in their struggles. But, this group is not just all about the deep, and heavy stuff. We also keep it light, both in the Facebook group, and in our in person/Zoom sessions. We always find a way to laugh, and enjoy such topics as movies, music, travel tips, recipes, restaurant reviews, etc. If you are here, you are interested in improving self through self care. Part of that process is connecting with those who are like minded in that desire. As you become more familiar with our group, you will come to realize that we are all more connected than you realize. One of the most incredible things about our group are the stories, some of which will be shared here on the site. To have a member show others what they may feel are their least flattering parts, is both bad ass, and inspiring. So, if you are new to Eastern Shore Talk, please catch our daily content in the Facebook group, periodic video clips on our YouTube channel @easternshoretalk, and now here in our blog. We will be putting out regular newsletters in conjunction with our in person/Zoom sessions to keep you posted of the latest in our group. There will be an opportunity to be on our email list to automatically be sent our newsletters. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at easternshoretalk@gmail.com. Welcome, and we are glad to have you.
January 9th In person/Zoom session
What we talked about.....
The latest in person/ Zoom session with guest speaker Alisha Saulsbury had us discussing trauma and what it entails. We talked about some of the red flags that are indicators of how we are being impacted by our trauma. We touched on what constitutes trauma, and how we all are effected differently by those events. Self care was talked about at length as far as how it helps us with navigating trauma. Alisha discussed how trauma as a child impacts differently than events that may occur as an adult. And, how sometimes those events at an early age can linger long into adulthood. An example from one of the members was of a classmate that we lost our junior year of high school, and how they are still impacted by that. We touched on how important our community is when dealing with trauma. Whether that is your family, friends, or a support system of some kind. That feeling of connection, and knowing we aren't alone goes a long way in helping us through our trauma. And, one of the more important points brought up was that we will all, at some point, have to deal with a trauma of some sort.
